As an electrical and automation expert for the new green industry emerging in Finland and Europe, you play an important role in the development of a sustainable future.
Vaasa is the largest energy technology city in the Nordic countries and this training prepares you for various assembly, installation and service tasks in the energy industry. Manual skills are more important than mathematical skills in this field. In this training, we start from the basics and take into account your starting level. You don’t need to have a mathematical or technical background. Most important is that you have an interest in learning new things.
Normally energy industry work is done in clean and dry environments. Thanks to automation, industrial work is no longer as heavy as before. Work tasks in this field include automated manufacturing, different electrical installation and assembly tasks.

TO WHOM
This training is valid for persons who are interested in learning new skills. You can apply for the vocational training without previous technical training or skills. The education is suitable for you if you want to find a job in the energy industry, change your profession, supplement your current skills or update your previous skills in energy industry. Applicants who live in Ostrobothnia are primarily selected for the training.
CONTENTS
Vamia’s vocational degree in electricity and automation gives you extensive know-how for various installation, service and maintenance tasks in the energy industry. The necessary competence comes through practical work exercises in the workshop.
In the vocational degree in electricity and automation, you study the following parts of the degree:
· Working in the electrical engineering and automation sector 30 competence points
· Low and extra-low voltage electrical installations 45 competence points
· Discrete automation installations 45 competence points
· Electrical drive installations 25 competence points
· Common units 35 competence points
The scope of the entire degree is 180 competence points.

IMPLEMENTATION
The training typically lasts 2,5 years, depending on your individual plan. The training focuses on practical training at school. Contact teaching takes place on Thursdays and Fridays every other week (on odd weeks). In addition, the studies include distance learning.
Teaching and teaching materials are in English. Part of the teaching can be done in Finnish to develop your language skills. You will learn key terms in the field of electricity and automation in Finnish.
The training takes place at the premises of the Sampo campus (Sepänkyläntie 16, 65100 Vaasa). On the Sampo campus, students study in modern facilities with the same equipment and work tools that are also used in working life.

TUITION FEE
The tuition fee for no EU/EEA students for Vocational qualification in Electrical Engineering and Automation Technology is approximately 11 100 euros/study year. (The exact annual tuition fee will be announced when the application period begins). The tuition fees concern students who are not citizens of EU/EEA countries and who have started their studies in August 2026 onwards. However, students can be exempted from the tuition fee e.g. on the basis of their residence permits.
