ELECTRICIAN AND AUTOMATION ASSEMBLER VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY
Vaasa is the largest energy technology hub in the Nordic countries, and this training will prepare you for a wide range of assembly, installation, and service tasks in the energy sector. In this field, practical skills are valued above mathematical ability.
The training starts from the basics and is tailored to each individual’s starting level. No previous technical or mathematical background is required. The most important qualification is an eager willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Energy industry work is normally done in clean and dry environments. Thanks to automation, industrial work is no longer as physically intense as before. Example work tasks in this field include automated manufacturing, and various electrical installation and assembly tasks.

You can apply for this training without previous technical training or skills. The training is suitable for you if you wish to find a job in the energy industry, change your profession, supplement your current skills or update your previous skills in energy industry.
CONTENTS
Vamia’s vocational degree in electricity and automation gives you extensive know-how for various installation, service, and maintenance tasks in the energy industry.
The necessary competence comes through practical work exercises in the workshop and at workplaces in the field.
The vocational degree in electricity and automation is made up by the following parts:
- Working in the electrical engineering and automation sector – 30 competence points
- Low and extra-low voltage electrical installations – 45 competence points
- Discrete automation installations – 45 competence points
- Electrical drive installations – 25 competence points
- Common units – 35 competence points
The entire degree encompasses 180 competence points.

IMPLEMENTATION
The training has a strong practical focus and is primarily delivered through hands-on learning at the school. Instruction is provided three to five days per week through face-to-face teaching, though teaching may be conducted remotely during one or two of these days if necessary. During workplace learning periods, participants will follow the working hours and practices of the host company.
The programme includes workplace learning, giving participants the opportunity to gain practical experience in real working environments. This opportunity will also enable participants to form valuable connections with employers and expand their network within the industry. Workplace learning can be completed either through a training agreement or an apprenticeship agreement. Apprenticeship training includes paid employment.
Teaching and learning materials are provided in English. To support the development of your language skills, part of the instruction may be delivered in Finnish. You will also learn essential Finnish terminology used in the field of electricity and automation.
The training takes place at the premises of the Sampo campus (Sepänkyläntie 16, 65100 Vaasa). On the Sampo campus, students study in modern facilities provided with the same equipment and work tools used in working life.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Labour policy education is primarily intended for unemployed individuals and those at risk of unemployment, who are clients of the Ostrobothnia employment services and whose job search is registered with the employment services. Labour policy education is free of charge for students. During the education, unemployment benefits and expense allowances may be paid.
