The Vocational Qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services, Waiter/Waitress provides you with solid knowledge and skills—from customer service to table settings and wine knowledge. The language of instruction is English, but the studies also include extensive Finnish language courses.
THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUCATION
The education will start on Tuesday 04 August 2026. The estimated date of graduation is Friday 02 May 2028.
TARGET GROUP AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
This training is intended for unemployed jobseekers who are interested in working in the restaurant sector as a waiter or waitress. The studies require normal work ability, good physical condition, and strong communication skills.
Applicants must have good English language skills. Language proficiency will be assessed during the interview.
DESCRIPTION OF THE EDUCATION
The scope of the qualification is 180 competence points (cp), consisting of vocational units (145 cp) and common units (35 cp), such as language studies and mathematical and civic skills. Duration of studies is two (2) years.
Vocational studies are carried out through in-person teaching in classrooms and Vamia’s Restaurant Silveria. The study program includes several work-based learning periods in various restaurants outside the school. You can also apply for an international exchange to gain insight into the restaurant culture of your host country.
The common units are mainly studied independently, for example, via Moodle courses. Finnish language lessons, however, are taught in person.

SELECTION EVENTS
Interviews will be held between 02–04 June 2026 at the Ostrobothnia Employment Services office in the Government Building (Virastotalo). Invitations to interviews will be sent via text message.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This labour market training is intended primarily for unemployed or at-risk-of-unemployment clients of the Ostrobothnia Employment Area with an active job search. The training is free of charge for participants. During the training period, students may be eligible for unemployment benefits and a daily allowance for expenses.
