Presenting Aurora Väisänen – Vamia’s Youth worker!

Nuoriso-ohjaaja Aurora Väisänen nojaa portaikon kaiteeseen Hansa-kampuksen aulassa, ja hymyilee kameralle.

Let’s get to know Aurora Väisänen, who started working as a Youth worker at Vamia in November 2024. Aurora works at the City of Vaasa Youth Services as part of the project “Starting School-Based Youth Work in Vaasa”, funded by the Regional State Administrative Agency.

What does a Youth worker do at Vamia?

– Students can reach out to me troughout the school day in person or via social media. The students can come meet me by themselves or in small groups – most likely you can find me at Olkkari! I also take part in events and I organize different activities with the youth. The core of my job as a Youth worker consists of group forming, promoting inclusion, addressing bullying and improving team spirit, Aurora tells.

The students can contact Aurora for example thorugh Snapchat, where Aurora can be found under the name vamia.aurora. Aurora tells that Snapchat has proven to be a good channel for reaching the youth. In addition, the students can reach Aurora by e-mail at aurora.vaisanen@vaasa.fi and by telephone 040 481 3204.

– The best thing about working as a Youth Worker is the youth and hanging out and talking with them. They are the best colleagues! Aurora tells.

Fun fact: Aurora is talented in languages, and speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese next to English and Finnish.

Aurora’s greetings to students: “Come and chat with me about anything, I look forward to getting to know you!”
